Multiple DUI Convictions

Richmond Hill DUI Attorneys by Your Side

Every one of us is capable of making serious mistakes from time to time. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that we won't make the same mistake again and again. In some circumstances, this could mean violating Georgia State driving laws multiple times. Regardless as to why you are facing multiple driving under the influence (DUI) charges, you should know more about what consequences might come with them and what you can or should do about it.

Contact our team of Hinesville DUI lawyers at Balbo & Gregg, Attorneys at Law, PC today.

Georgia State's DUI Lookback Period

In Georgia, there is a lookback period of ten years for DUI-related violations. To think of it another way, a DUI charge will be "active" on your record for 10 years. This means that if you were arrested in 2015 for a DUI and were also arrested in 2006 for a DUI, your penalties will escalate accordingly.

Penalties tend to scale predictably, with a first-time violation being the least severe:

  1. First offense: Up to one year in jail, $300 to $1,000 in fines, and up to one year license suspension.
  2. Second offense: Up to one year in jail, $600 to $1,000 in fines, and three years of license suspension.
  3. Third offense: At least two weeks in jail, $1,000 to $5,000 in fines, five years license suspension, and an ignition interlock device.
  4. Fourth offense: One to five years in prison, a $5,000 fine, a permanent license revocation, and an ignition interlock device installed onto any vehicle you operate.

Other consequences could befall you on a conviction for any violation, such as community service and enrollment in DUI risk reduction programs.

What Can Be Done to Defend Yourself?

It is important to realize that each DUI charge is unique. Oftentimes law enforcement agencies will look at your case as if each violation is identical. There is considerable weakness in this assumption.

By taking a fresh perspective to the charges you are facing now, our Richmond Hill DUI lawyers at Balbo & Gregg, Attorneys at Law, PC can exploit the oversight the prosecution may be using against you and find a way to the best outcome possible for your case. We have more than 25 years of combined legal experience with a heavy focus on criminal defense, including time spent as military prosecutors. When you come to us, you should know that we will not be daunted by the opposition, no matter how many DUI convictions might be on your record. Call (866) 580-3089 today.
